New: listen to ePub books and phone photos

Privacy Policy

Who we are

Read-Along is run by Extremevalue, Inc., 1340 Pecan Grove Drive, Diamond Bar, CA 91765, USA. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. Questions: readalong@woodstockdaily.com.

What we collect and why

We collect only what we need to run the service:

  • Your email address or mobile number: to sign you in (no password) and send you your read-along link
  • Documents you upload and links you paste: to make your read-along; uploads are deleted once it's done
  • Your finished read-alongs (text and audio): so you can listen to them; anyone you share a read-along's link with can open it
  • Payment status (paid, refunded, amount) — never your card number: to give you Premium and to refund you if something goes wrong
  • Your answer to the text-message box (yes or no), with date, time, page and IP address: to prove you asked for texts
  • IP address and browser details at sign-in and upload: to stop bots and abuse (Cloudflare Turnstile) and to fix problems
  • Questions you type into the help chat: to answer them, and so we can improve the site (kept 30 days)

How we use it

To provide the service you asked for, sign you in, send messages you asked for, take payments and refunds, prevent abuse, and fix problems. We don't sell your personal information and we don't use it for advertising.

Companies that help us

These service providers process data for us, only to run the service, under their own privacy and security commitments:

One more: when you hold a word in the player to see its meaning, your browser asks the free Dictionary API (api.dictionaryapi.dev) for that one word. It sees the word and your internet address, nothing else from your document.

Text messages

If you tick the box to get texts, we keep a record of your yes: your phone number, the exact words you agreed to, the date and time, the page, and your IP address. This proves you asked for the texts.

We use your phone number only to send the texts you asked for and sign-in codes. We never sell or share your phone number or text-message opt-in with anyone for their marketing. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

Cookies

We use one sign-in cookie to keep you signed in, plus the small amount of browser storage needed for features like remembering a finished tour. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep data only as long as needed:

  • Your account (email or phone, sign-in history): until you ask us to delete it
  • Uploaded documents: deleted as soon as your read-along is ready; 7 days after a document finally fails; unused uploads after 1 day
  • Finished read-alongs: until you ask us to delete them
  • Payment records (kept by Stripe; we keep the amount, date and status): as long as tax and accounting law requires, usually 7 years
  • Text-message consent records: for as long as we may text you, plus 5 years as proof
  • Help chat conversations: 30 days
  • Server logs: up to 30 days

Your choices and rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account and its data by emailing readalong@woodstockdaily.com from the email or phone you sign in with. We'll reply within 30 days. Reply STOP to any text to stop texts.

If you live in California or another place with privacy laws, you have these rights too, and we won't treat you differently for using them. We do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, stored with our hosting provider in private storage, and only the people who run the service can access it. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we'll tell you.

Children

Read-Along isn't for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child gave us data, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and tell you first if the change matters.
