New: listen to ePub books and phone photos

Compare

Read-Along vs Speechify

Both turn a document into audio you can listen to. They are built for different people. Here is a straight comparison.

Written by the Read-Along team. We are biased, so every claim about Speechify links to Speechify's own pages. Checked 2026-10-25.

Who each is for

  • Speechify

A full reading app with many features: voices in many languages, faster speeds, scanning pages with your camera, AI summaries and chat, cloud-drive imports and voice typing. If you want all that every day, it is a strong fit.

  • Read-Along

For someone with one document in front of them, like a long PDF, a report or a web page. You want to hear it read aloud while the words light up, with nothing to set up. Add the file or a link, and get a link back.

What we do not have yet

  • No phone app and no browser extension. Read-Along is a website.
  • No camera “scan a page” feature.
  • No AI summaries or chat about your document.
  • No cloud-drive imports and no voice typing.
  • Four English voices, not a big catalogue.
  • Documents wait in a line. Free ones wait their turn, and long ones take longer. Narration stops at 3 hours.
